Bohemian halakhic authority. He was born in Opatow, Poland, and served as dayyan of Brody and rabbi of Yampol. In 1754 he became rabbi of Prague and the whole of Bohemia. He attempted to mitigate the conflict between
Jadob Emden and
Jonathan Eibeschütz, fought against the Shabbeteains, and opposed Hasidism. He objected to
Moses Mendelssohn's German translation of the Bible. His
Noda bi-Yhudah contains over 800 responsa.
